Cross Country - State Finishers!



Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Cross Country team on their 3rd place finish at the State finals in Tallahassee on November 17th. The girls were led by junior Alex E. who finished 3rd overall with a time of 18:33 (that's a 3.1 mile run in 18 minutes and 33 seconds!) All members of the team will return next year - giving the Chargers lots to look forward to!

The boys varsity team also concluded their fantastic season with a 12th place finish at the State meet. They were led by junior Ross P. who finished 14th with a time of 16:39. The boys will say goodbye to two seniors this year, Chas B. and JJ J. Thank you both for your hard work, dedication, and leadership throughout your years on the team! You will be missed.

Week of 10/8

Tuesday - practice

Thursday - practice til 4:15-4:30
Friday - Meet at USF. We will offer a bus for those who wish to ride with us. Bus will leave promptly at 2:30 - Please let me know in advance if your child will be riding so we are sure to wait for you! Bus should return to SPS around 7:30-8PM.
Please note that JV boys and girls run together.

October 12 @ USF Golf Course, JV Races start @ 4:30. Varsity Girls 5:30-Varsity Boys 6:00pm.

XC week of 9/17

Congratulations to all of our runners on their spectacular performances last week! Its a great time for us to be having this, slightly easier/simpler week :)

1) This Thursday, 9/20, all Middle Division runners will be participating in the 2 Mile run at Puryear Park. All Upper Division runners will be required to help out with this meet. MD runners will travel by bus to Puryear - the bus will leave @ 3:15. All UD runners should sign out DURING ADVISORY, change and RUN to Puryear Park, arriving no later than 3:30! The bus will return following the meet with the MD runners (except for those who leave with parents) and the UD runners will RUN back to SPS. All will be ready for pick-up by 5PM.

2) We WILL practice this Friday, 9/21.

3) We are making one change to our schedule for October. On 10/11 we will NOT participate in the IRCS meet at Bonner Park. Instead, all runners WILL participate in the Armwood Invitational at the USF Golf Course on 10/12. Many details to follow. If you need information regarding this meet immediately, it can be found at FLrunners.com.

4) In anticipation of the next two Friday meets, please help your child prepare by staying current with all class and homework assignments. While the runners will be excused from classes on both 9/28 and 10/5, they will still be responsible for any material they miss. Each athlete must communicate with his or her teachers regarding these classes.

At this point we are still planning to practice this afternoon. I will email you if that changes, and the kids will be notified by their division offices. Have a terrific week!

Directions for 9/13


Taylor Park (Cross Country)

1. Take Ulmerton Road West toward the beaches.
2. Turn right on Ridge Rd.
3. Follow Ridge Rd. until you get to 8th Ave. SW.
4. Turn left and the Park should be on your left.
5. Enter off 8th Avenue SW and drive to Southwest side of Park.

Tomorrow and Saturday

Hi all. Just wanted to clear things up one last time before the first meet.

1) We will practice tomorrow until 4:30. It is very important that all runners attend as we are heading into our very first meet. I understand that several people have other commitments (those of you who have emailed me your conflicts - that's you :) and that is OK, however, if your child can be there it would be to his or her benefit.

2) Any runners planning to ride on the bus need to be at school by 6AM. All other runners should plan to arrive no less than 1 hour prior to their race. Race times are as follow:

Schedule
8:00- Varsity Girls
8:35- Varsity Boys
9:10- JV Boys
9:15- JV Girls

3) Following are the directions to Sydney Dover Trails given to us by the Seffner Christian Coach:

525 N. Dover Rd. Dover 33527 is physical address, but don't gps that or it will send you to the wrong entrance of the park. For you guys I would take I-275 to I-75 South toward Naples. Get off on Exit 257 toward Brandon, this is the Hwy 60 exit. Take Hwy 60 East for quite a while. Traffic should be clear that early Sat morning. Cross over Dover Rd. and the park will be about 1/4 mile down on left. No traffic light or stop sign- long left hand turn lane

Parent Meeting Information

Cross Country 2012
➢ All runners will run a 5K race – top 7/10 of each gender will run varsity, all others run JV.
➢ 1st Meet 9/8 Seffner Classic @ Dover Trails. Any athletes riding the bus need to be at SPS by 6AM and let us know in advance that you are coming.
➢ 9/13 IRCS @ Taylor Park – all runners not attending UF meet on 9/15.
➢ Varsity team travelling to UF will be announced Monday 9/10. We will leave on Friday 9/14 after school and return Saturday afternoon. Families will be responsible for room charges for this meet.
➢ 9/20 4PM @ Puryear Park – 2 mile run for all MD runners. UD runners will assist with set-up, course direction, break-down, etc.
➢ 9/28 FLRunners.com Race in Titusville and 10/5 Disney Classic Race - All students will be excused from class @ 9AM. We will travel to Titusville/Orlando for our races and return that evening between 9PM - 11PM. Runners will need to bring money for lunch and dinner. They may also wish to purchase a T-shirt from the race.
➢ For families who wish to stay overnight at Disney - information on hotel rooms and discounted park tickets available @ http://espnwwos.disney.go.com/events/track-field/wdw-cross-country-classic/planning-tools
➢ Team parents Janet Peterson and Susie Goren – information on snacks and drinks for meets.
➢ All runners must turn in a waiver form for the Disney meet by September 21st.
➢ Transportation to and from all meets will be provided. Athletes may be signed out by a parent/guardian if they are not riding home on the bus. ➢ Students who wish to drive to away meets must turn in the appropriate form to the Athletic Department prior to the first meet.
➢ Uniforms will be distributed next week.
➢ Team t-shirts to be ordered next week. We may have several designs, therefore, I will need email approval for any shirts that are ordered.
➢ Final meet for JV runners – Bay Conference 10/25. Varsity runners only will compete at Districts, Regionals, and State. Hotel rooms for these meets (if needed) are provided by the Athletic Department.

Parent Meeting Time Change

This Wednesday, 8/29, we will have a brief parent meeting to discuss specifics for the upcoming season. We will plan to meet at the picnic tables in the covered lunch pavilion next to the 7th/8th grade building. Due to the fact that our District meeting originally scheduled for Monday has been moved to Wednesday, we'll need to meet at 4:30 instead of 5. Sorry for any inconvenience. I will post all information from the meeting on the blog. Hope to see you then :)

2012 Season is Almost here!

Hi All - hope this finds you enjoying your last few days of summer vacation! Its been a busy one, that's for sure. Hard to believe its almost time to get back to SPS! We will officially begin practice this Monday, August 13th at 6PM on the tract. All athletes must have their FHSAA physical form, Insurance & Liability form and concussion forms completed and turned into the Athletic Office in order to participate in practices. These forms are located in the Athletics section/Athletics forms tab of our website. We're looking forward to another great season! Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
